The housing development at Scotswood is a great example of a public-private partnership. Funding was obtained from the central government by the North of Tyne Combined Authority. In combination with Keepmoat Homes, the development became commercially viable. HMH Civils won the contract for the extensive groundwork required to build the hundreds of homes on the sloping site.
The government’s manifesto pledge to build 1.5 million new homes over the next 5 years aligns perfectly with this development of shared ownership housing, owner-occupied houses and rented accommodation. Retain is delighted to contribute in some small way to the relationship building evident in this development.
Retain Solutions has been involved in Phases 2 and 2A at Scotswood and is currently on site and nearing completion of Phases 5 and 5A. As David Fleet from HMH Civils mentions in his testimonial, Retain has built up a successful relationship with HMH Civils over the period of our involvement on-site.
HMH Civils are a leading Civil Engineering and groundworks company with over 300 employees. They cover the North East, Yorkshire and Humber areas. Retain has found that HMH Civils share our core values, including a strong commitment to local charities. In May 2024 Retain took a table at the HMH Civils Charity Ball. This was an opportunity to reward valuable members of our supply chain and strengthen our relationship with this valued customer. More importantly, the two chosen charities “Cheesy Waffles Project” which supports young people with additional needs and, the Great North Air Ambulance benefitted from HMH’s generosity. Oh, and of course, a great night’s craic was had by all.
Building relationships is what we intend with every contract we enter. Striving for “Cost Certainty” is at the core of this relationship building. Our Full Cycle involvement underpins this effort. In short, we aim to profit from the next contract rather than “squeeze the pips” on the current project. 30 years in the retaining wall business is testimony to this philosophy.
