The Project: Reviving a Collapsing Timber Crib Wall
In 2019, we were approached by Ford Civil Engineering Ltd. in Dorset Hampshire region, a respected medium sized groundworker company with an impressive client list, such as Barratt Homes, Duchy of Cornwall, and Bloor Homes. They needed a solution for a collapsing timber crib wall, originally built 11 years earlier, which had suffered due to poor preservation.
Our design team proposed using modular block walling with either geogrid reinforcement or lean-mix concrete, depending on the specific site conditions. The walls reached 5 metres in height and required precision to ensure long-term stability.
Overcoming Challenges: Tight Access, Smooth Process
As is often the case in built-up areas, access to the site was extremely limited. However, our “Full Cycle” approach—where our design, supply, and construction teams work closely together—ensured we could navigate these challenges smoothly. This seamless collaboration gave us confidence in our initial quote and allowed us to stick to our goal of “Cost Certainty.”
In the end, we delivered the project on time and within budget. For Barratt Homes, the added bonus was the provision of a Collateral Warranty, further solidifying our reputation for reliability.
