A gabion wall was designed and constructed to retain up to 3.0 metres in height adjacent to a river running past a housing development.

Extensive walling was required to retain car parks and delivery area at a major new B&Q store at the Riverside Retail Park in Coleraine.

As part of an upgrade of stations to provide disabled ramp access, we were approached by main contractor Cleary Contracts to design an attractive, efficient and cost effective alternative to reinforced concrete walls.

Before construction of our Anda Crib retaining wall required to retain an existing structure supporting a roadway above at a social housing site at Bligh's Lane, Retain Engineers designed phased temporary works in the form of a diaphragm wall to support the existing structure prior to bulk excavation below the structure.

Retain Solutions Ltd were appointed to design, supply and erect a timber crib retaining walling at a social housing scheme in Creggan. The Permacrib wall measured up to 6 metres high and approximately 260m long located to the rear of proposed dwellings.

An existing grass bank was removed to the rear of the main building at Stranmillis Primary School and a 'Permacrib' timber crib retaining wall was constructed along the site boundary creating a new playground facility for the pupils.

Reinforced Soil Case Studies

Belfast

Girl’s Model School

Initially a modular block with a reinforced soil block was specified for this development. The planning authorities made it clear that a softer, more natural option would be required. An added complication was that Road Service approvals were required for a section of the walling. At a late stage our engineers specified the Greenface system. This system satisfied the Planners and successfully obtained Geotechnical Certification from the Road Service.

Glenshesk Landslip

Retain Solutions were consulted to provide a cost effective engineered solution to an unexpected landslip adjacent to a carriageway on the Glenshesk Road, Armoy.

Derry/Londonderry

Ebrington

A reinforced slope solution was required to facilitate the access routes to a new two storey Multi – Storey Car Park with approximately 220 spaces. The overall project value was £5M.
